About Us
Saplings is a nature-based learning program rooted in the belief that children thrive when given the freedom to explore, play, and connect with the natural world. Founded in Vancouver, Saplings offers outdoor preschool, school-age care, and seasonal camps that take place entirely in local forests and parks. Our experienced educators support child-led learning through hands-on activities, storytelling, and seasonal exploration, encouraging creativity, resilience, and environmental stewardship. At Saplings, we aim to nurture confident, capable children who feel a deep sense of belonging in nature and within their communities.

Our Story
Beginning at her home in West Vancouver in 2011, our founder Heather Fraser set out to create time and space for her own children, and others in the community, to connect with the natural world. What began as a small gathering has grown into a vibrant network of outdoor programs across Vancouver, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver, all rooted in a deep respect for nature. At Saplings, forests, creeks, and meadows are more than just settings—they are teachers. Through daily exploration and play, children develop a meaningful connection to the land and a lasting appreciation for the environment. Since 2019, our non-profit branch, SAP Outdoor Association, has furthered our mission by promoting environmental stewardship and championing diversity and inclusion in outdoor education.
